In ultrasonic testing (UT), high-frequency sound waves are transmitted into a material to detect imperfections or to locate changes in material properties. The most commonly used ultrasonic testing technique is pulse echo, whereby sound is introduced into a test object and reflections (echoes) from internal imperfections or the part's geometrical surfaces are returned to a receiver.
3angles uses ultrasonic testing in many test applications and also has the capability to perform advanced UT such as Phased Array UT and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD).
Examples of applications where we use advanced UT are boresonic inspection of steam turbine and generator rotor bores, turbine wheel blade attachments and generator retaining rings. During the inspection of turbine-generators typically UT is applied for inspection of bearings, bolting and studs.
